2018 PACE Scholarship Recipients
The 2018 Scholarship Luncheon and Fashion Show was held on April 14, 2018 at Brookhaven Country Club, Farmers Branch, TX. The PACE 2018 scholarship recipients are listed below.
Joy Chioma Aniede
Joy is graduating senior from Rowlett High School. She has applied to several leading colleges and universities. She is ranked 17 out of a class of 621. Joy is known as a positive, polite, and friendly young leader, not only by her teachers and counselor, but also by her classmates. She has received many honors and awards including the Garland ISD Academic Excellence Award, the National Spanish Honor Society, and the National Honor Society. She has sung in the Acappella Choir since 2014. Not only is she on top of her studies, but she is also involved around the campus and outside the community. Giving of her time to help those around her is very important to Joy.
Betelehem Dejene
Betelehem is a graduating senior from L.V. Berkner High School. She has applied to several prestigious Texas universities. She plans on pursuing a degree in Pharmacy. Betelehem is in the top 12% of her class and ranks 72 out of a class of 550. She is hardworking, talented, caring dependable, and is focused on a purposeful life. Like so many young people today, she works and maintains high academic scores, and she still eagerly makes time to volunteer to help others in the community. She has only been in the US for 6 years and has faced many obstacles including learning English and adapting to a new environment living with her aunt, since her parents are still in Ethiopia. As a result, She has become very involved in her classroom work and after school clubs.
Savanna McCauley
Savanna is a senior attending International Leadership of Texas in Grand Prairie. She has applied to Howard, Spellman, Texas A&M, & Albion University. Savannah has been in a dual credit program in the 9th, 10th &11th grades. She attends classes regularly at Tarrant County Community College. She has won awards for debate competition and most outstanding in Sociology. She’s very active athletically and is on the varsity volleyball and Basketball team. On a volunteer basis, she has logged in many hours between 2015 and 2017. She is interested in pursuing a career in political science and journalism. According to her counselor, she possesses the right amount of charisma and integrity to succeed in any endeavor.
Ndashe Kamungu
Ndashe is a senior student at R.L. Turner. She who is ranked 14 out of a class of 432. She has applied to several universities and is interested in neuroscience and chemistry. She is known as a prized student who demonstrates not only a gift of creativity, but a great reservoir for kindness. She is very active in school i.e., Health occupation students of America’s historian, a member of the `National Honor Society, Student Council and youth leadership since she was a freshman. She has volunteered for the Red Cross and at the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center as well as tutored students in math and help students in translating
Katelyn Shelton
Katelyn is a graduating senior who attends International Leadership of Texas in Grand Prairie. She plays sports, is involved in clubs, and excels in a rigorous coursework program in the classroom. She has applied to several universities. This young lady is determined to succeed despite setbacks that have occurred in her young life. Katelyn volunteered in the Houston Food Bank. She is a survivor.
Tyler Smith
Tyler is a graduating senior at Ranchview High School in Irving. She also has applied to several universities and plans to major in nursing. She ranks 30 out of a class of 209. Education is very important to Tyler, and it shows in her academic level. She has taken most of her classes at the pre-diploma or IB level. She has a strong work ethic and demonstrates responsibility and a desire to help others. She is a National Honor Society scholar. She also played junior varsity basketball and served as captain of the team. She received both all-district academic and volleyball awards.
