One of PACE's strongest memebers, Cecilia Wilson-Smith, along with her team, Sisters of Strength, joined over 3,000 participants who had raised money and walked 20 miles a day for 3 days for a cure for breast cancer.

You can still donate to this worthy cause.  Please contact Cecilia through The3day.org website.  On the right hand side, look for "Donate to a Participant" and look for Cecilia's name as a walk participant.

One woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes in the United States.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation, started as a local foundation here in Dallas, helps in the research and diagnosis of breast cancer and in the support of women throughout the United States who have contracted this terrible disease.

You can donate any amount - no amount is too small and may help to save your live or the life of someone you love.  If you know someone who has had breast cancer or have lost someone to breast cancer, you know first hand how devastating this disease can be and you have even more reason to donate.  So please donate today.

The 3 day walk was held on November 4, 5, and 6, 2011.

Dallas Chapter of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition annual Run/Walk event.

One of our members, Bessie Dorsey-Davis, is an active member of the Dallas, Ovarian Cancer Coalition.  Although Bessie did not walk this year at the annual Run/Walk which was held on Saturday, September 17, 2011.  She helped to provide accommodations for survivors in the Survivors' Tent. PACE member, Tracey Richardson joined Bessie on this amazing morning.  The Survivors' Tent was stocked with orange juice, Starbuck's coffee, cinnamon rolls from the Holiday Inn Express in Arlington, Texas, fruit, and water.  This writer was there and I can safely say that survivors and other participants thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful repast they were served.

The PACE annual retreat.

This year PACE held its annual retreat at a local hotel - Staybridge Suites.  The plans for the retreat came off without a hitch thanks to the hotel's representative Dana Taylor and the hotel staff.  The retreat was held on Friday evening August 12th, and until 2:30PM Saturday, August 13th.

PACE 2010 - 2011 ARCHIVED NEWS ITEMS

The Pacettes held its closing event for Spring 2011 on May 21st, 2010.  The event, the Pacettes' Mother and Daughter Amazing Race was an adventure through Carrollton and Farmers Branch on the new metro light rail.  Pacette members and their mothers competed for prizes by answering questions, performing challenges, and completing tasks.  After the race the girls and their mothers were served a delicious lunch and dessert by members of PACE and the community honoring the girls for such an excellent year of service. Click here for pictures of that amazing event.

That special date that we have all been waiting for finally came.  The PACE 2011 Scholarship Luncheon was held April 16, 2011 at Brookhaven Country Club.  The country club is located at 3333 Golfing Green in Dallas.

There were musical selections from two very outstanding young people who showcased their talents for the PACE members and guests.  Christopher Wilson sang and played "The Impossible Dream". Adrienne Walker honored us with an operatic selection.  Adrienne is one of PACE's scholarship recipients this year.

The fashions for the fashion show this year was provided by Angela Woods of Double Take Designs and fashions from the models' own wardrobes.

To top it all off, we had a very stirring speech given by Mrs. Dorthery West.  Mrs. West was introduced to us by one of our members, Jana Prince.  Mrs. West gave us an inspiring message drawn from her own past.  Guests said they were all very moved by her message.

Vendors this year included merchants showing clothing, hats, purses, jewelry, cosmetics, art work, and insurance services.

Pictures with some of the highlights of the day's events can be seen by clicking on this link.

The PACE Multi-family Garage Sale was held on Saturday, April 30 at the home of member Tracey Richardson, 4451 Rushing Road, Dallas, TX 75287 The weather threatened to rain most of the day which limited traffic for the event, but we still made a nice little profit from the sale of electronics, clothing, and household goods. But the best part of the garage sale was the camaraderie shared by the members of PACE after during and after the event.

The March meeting of PACE was held on Sunday, March 10th at the  Carrollton Josey Ranch Library.  The meeting was led by Vice-President Arlene Beasley and began at 3PM.  Plans for the upcoming luncheon, the garage sale, and the Pacettes Amazing Race were discussed.

The luncheon plans were finalized down to the last detail.  Ticket sales were also discussed

Tracey Richardson passed out the final draft of the program which brought up the need to go over the program in detail. With a few elements being changed and others eliminated, the program was finalized and approved for printing

The meeting adjoined at 5PM.

Special guest authors  participated in the PACE African-American  Read-In on February 20, 2011 - Dr. Grace Allman Burke, author of "The Stranger's Son" and Kathy R. Green, author of "Pray-ers Bear Fruit".  Both read excerpts from their books.

DECEMBER 2009

Adopt-a-Family info for Christmas 2009

Mom was very grateful for the gifts PACE provided to her and her sons.

The PACE Christmas Gala - The food was great. The ambience was perfect. And Disco Don provided a wonderful music mix. The gala was held in the Oak Room of the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Midway Rd in Addison, TX . The silent auction brought in some very nice articles and they went for great prices. Between spa treatments and hotel stays, gourmet packages and beautiful artwork, the Christmas season is going to be a lot merrier for those who won their bids.

NOVEMBER 2009

November Meeting - The regular monthly meeting of PACE was held at Marshall's Bar BQ at 3pm on November 8, 2009 -Interim President Rachel Lewis presiding.  Welcome to our two new members Kathy and Jodi.

OCTOBER 2009

PACE ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP RUSH was held on Sunday, October 18, 2009

What a wonderful time we had at the annual membership rush. There were six prospective members that came out to hear more about what PACE stands for and the many opportunities the organization has to offer. They were welcomed by our President, Rachel Lewis. The history of PACE and an overview of the many programs were presented by Roxanne Forster, one of the charter members. PACE's goals for the 2009/2010 year were discussed. Officers, committee chairs and members were introduced with summaries of their responsibilities and duties given.

The guests introduced themselves. It was a blessing and a testimony to PACE of the way others lives have been touched through PACE. Many present had attended other PACE activities such as the African American Read-In, the Scholarship Luncheon and the Christmas Gala. There were so many compliments on each activity. Adriana Atkins, a 2002 PACE scholarship recipient, told how she received the scholarship application and what a difference it made in her life. She is an example of why PACE do what they do to give out scholarships to our female high school seniors.

PACE FALL YARD SALE

The annual fall garage sale was held October 10th at the home of Jo Gardner. Members started arriving at 6AM for a day of sales and comrarderie. We weren't rained out but we nearly suffered frostbite because it was very cold. Sales were not as brisk as the wind but we still managed to make a few dollars. The Pacettes were on hand to provide face-painting and Bessie Dorsey-Davis provided us with the most delicious sandwiches.

We would like to thank Jo and her boys for opening up their home (and garage) to us for this fundraising event.

AW PERRY MUSEUM CELEBRATION

There was music, food, games, crafts, historic demonstrations, a petting zoo and lots of friends to see. The home was open for tours also. Admission was free to all. We hope that you went out for this joyous occasion! The "Centennial Quilt" was un-veiled. Roxanne Forster was in attendance and took photos for those of us unable to attend.
